River Bend Counseling Center
What to expect in therapy:
Therapy allows you to address difficulties in a safe and caring environment. At times an outside perspective alone can be helpful in overcoming emotional and physical ruts in life. During individual sessions you will find us understanding and supportive. We draw on our training and experience to help you create deeper understandings, find resolutions to old hurts, develop new skills, or remove obstacles keeping you from achieving your full potential. We have specialized training in a lifespan developmental perspective and works with individuals and families across the life span.
Adults
Adult therapy is as varied as the adults we see. Many times, people simply need a little space and understanding and they naturally move towards growth. Sometimes we use intensive treatment approaches like EMDR, CBT, DBT and other protocols to help create change in areas that have become "stuck." It gives us joy to see our clients resolve challenges and make new growth. We offer family and couples therapy as well.
Children and Familes
Children: Our practice supports young children from infancy onward, helping parents navigate common challenges like feeding, sleep, emotional, and behavioral regulation. We also work with families facing developmental difficulties, complex medical needs, or special accommodations. Childhood mood and anxiety disorders often show up differently than in adults and may look like withdrawn, irritable, aggressive, or clingy behavior. When these challenges begin to interfere with family life, school, or peer relationships, we offer cognitive behavioral approaches, play therapy, and expressive techniques to make treatment engaging, meaningful, and fun.
Teens: Teens face challenges as varied and complex as those adults experience, and we approach therapy with flexibility to meet their developmental needs. For some, individual therapy with a talk format is effective, while others may benefit from additional parent coaching and support. Along with mood and anxiety concerns, teens often express distress through risky behaviors, so we provide parents with guidance and home strategies to navigate these situations. Our aim is to create a supportive environment that helps teens grow, connect, and thrive.

Family approaches: We recognize how dynamic and interactive mental health needs and are comfortable working in the family system or the couple to address complex interactions and needs. With a high level of expertise in infant, early childhood, middle school and adolescent mental health, we craft intentions to fit the specific developmental and relational needs of your family . We use a combination of behavioral, family, cognitive behavioral, play and expressive therapies to individualize treatment to children.
Couples
Most couples present to therapy asking for help with communication or conflict. For some, life responsibilities may drained the relationship of vibrance. Other times, there may be issues around trust, anger, or habits that affect the relationship negatively. Often, couples are struggling to feel fully seen by their partner. We will clearly identify each partner's goal for therapy and get below the surface to focus on issues related to intimacy, attachment, and emotions. We love evidenced-based approaches such as Emotion Focused Couples Therapy, the Gottman Method, and Discernment approaches.
