Sarah Joy Krueger, Ph.D.

OVERVIEW
Dr. Sarah Krueger, a clinical psychologist, has a passion for working with individuals across the lifespan, which includes adults of all ages, and parents with young children, and adolescents. She addresses traditional mental health concerns and also coaches individuals seeking to enhance their lives or who are navigating life transitions and grapple with questions of identity and meaning. Dr. Krueger also provides consultation and training in businesses, schools, and Head Start programs. She aids programs in crisis management, preventing burnout, and increasing effectiveness. Dr. Krueger values supporting caregivers in their service of others.

PHILOSOPHY
She has training see how presenting difficulties interact with physical, social, and emotional development. She works effectively with difficulties in self-regulation (behavior, attention, sleep or eating), atypical or delayed development, medical concerns, mood, anxiety, and other mental health symptoms, and grief or traumatic stress. She also helps many adults navigating complex life stressors or working towards building a more meaningful personal life or career.

TECHNIQUES
Therapeutically, Dr. Krueger uses a variety of evidence-based treatments. She draws from cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, narrative, family systems and existential frameworks. She is well versed in specific evidenced based protocols such as EMDR, DBT, CBT, CPP and the like. Additionally, her advanced training in assessment of cognitive, developmental, social and emotional functioning from infancy through adulthood assisters her in modifying her approach to fit each individual. Mindfulness Based Performance Enhancement and Life Coaching Approaches as well as systemic psychology is used coaching.

TRAINING
Dr. Krueger’s graduate training includes a M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Catholic University, and an M.A. in Counseling from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota. She also completed a coaching program through the Martha Beck Institute. She loves learning and is always engaged in education to expand her understandings. Prior to private practice, she taught and provided clinical services at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. For fun, she enjoys hiking, cooking and camping with her family.

Julie Rohrer, M.S.
​
Julie Rohrer is a dynamic professional with a diverse background in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, behavioral health, and education. With a double major in Psychology and Anthropology and an Education minor from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and a Master's in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of Hartford, Julie brings a unique human-centered approach to her work. Her professional experiences have helped hone her skills in mentoring, performance management, communication, and organizational efficiency.

Julie works closely with both students and their families to ensure that they have the tools necessary to improve time management, prioritize tasks, and organize their workloads effectively. As an Executive Functioning Coach, Julie specializes in helping students develop key cognitive and organizational skills that allow them to succeed academically and personally. Executive functioning refers to a set of mental skills that include working memory, flexible thinking, and self-control- all of which are essential for managing daily tasks, school work, and long-term goals.

Julie's coaching goes beyond academic assistance. She helps students build the skills they need to become independent thinkers, confident decision-makers, and resilient learners. Whether it's through developing better study habits, managing distractions, or setting realistic and achievable goals, Julie tailors her approach to each student's unique needs, recognizing that no two learners are the same.
​
For clients, this means gaining access to a coach who not only understands the psychological principles behind behavior and learning but also brings practical, hands-on strategies to help students overcome challenges. Julie's goal as an Executive Functioning Coach is to empower students to thrive, not just academically, but in all areas of their lives, creating a solid foundation for future success.

David Van Handel, LSWC
​
David Van Handel, LCSW, has been a practicing psychotherapist for over forty years. Initially trained and mentored as a child and family therapist, about half of his current practice is devoted to this modality. With expertise in treating childhood depression, anxiety disorders, ADHD, autism, behavior disorders, learning and developmental disabilities and PTSD, David employs a combination of family therapy, parent education, play therapy for young children, and cognitive behavioral therapy for adolescents. As a child and family therapist, David is described as being nurturing, compassionate and supportive, yet he maintains firm boundaries with his patients, as needed.
​
Like Dr. Sarah, David has an extensive history in treating and mentoring professionals, including school personnel, other mental health practitioners, physicians and doctors of all types, massage therapists and other bodywork specialists, and yoga and meditation teachers. Relative to the latter category, David has been practicing meditation and yoga since 1977, and has resided in meditation and yoga centers both in the United States and India.

Lastly, David’s practice includes individual and marital therapy. Relying on his history of both his own individual and marital therapy, and his many years of post-graduate training in a variety of modalities, David is again described as being compassionate and caring, with good assertive boundaries.
